Collection: John Walsom, ROI
John is an English painter who works "en plein air", in front of the subject, and in the studio. He's a council member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Wapping Group of Artists, and an elected member of Chelsea Art Society. He has works in the collections of Queen Elizabeth II, Oxford University, and Hampton Court Palace.
In the 1970s, while studying to be an architect, John sold his paintings of local scenes from the railings of the Bayswater Road in London. In the 1980s he worked at a much larger scale as a scenic artist, painting huge canvases and backdrops for live theatre. He has also been a theatre design consultant, a registered architect and an architectural photographer. He's been painting full-time since 1990.
John has lived in London most of his life and now lives in Bath. When he's not painting he plays the guitar with whoever will have him.
