Dennis Spicer attended the Byam Shaw School of Painting in London from 1979 to 1983. Since then, he has spent his time teaching, painting and life drawing in West London. In 2000 Dennis moved to the picturesque West Kirby on the Wirral with his family where he currently resides and continues to paint and teach.
He has a small repertoire of objects in his studio that form the central subjects of his still life paintings. These include dried flowers, shells and animal skulls picked up from the beach as well as a selection of cups bowls and jugs that have special meaning to him.
Recently his paintings have become more about the abstract qualities of the image, playing with flatness and multiple eye levels to produce a balanced result. He has also started using many life drawing studies to produce paintings of figures in interiors.
